FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER EXAM

The City of Streetsboro, Civil Service Commission, has contracted with Cuyahoga Community College to provide a Standardized Police Assessment Test.  The test consists of a written/cognitive assessment, a psychological pre-screening and a physical agility exam.  The assessment will be used to establish an eligibility list and was created by independent experts, validated by scientific research, and will be administered impartially and fairly at a neutral test site. There are three (3) parts to the test; written/cognitive assessment, psychological pre-screening and physical agility.  The written/cognitive and psychological pre-screening will be administered at Western Campus on March 8, 2015; and the physical agility will be administered twice at the Western Campus on February 15, 2015 and March 15, 2015. (applicants must only attend one physical agility date) 

The deadline to register and make payment for the written/cognitive and psychological pre-screening is 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The cost of each part of the battery is $60 per assessment. Please call Cuyahoga Community College Administrative Services at 216-987-3033 to register and pay for the test. You must pay at the time of registration. 

Qualifications for a Streetsboro Police Officer: 

  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.
  • OPOTA certification required at time of appointment.
  • Must pass a written Civil Service exam and agility test followed by interviews, background check, polygraph evaluation, psychological evaluation, and medical exam which includes drug screening and corrected vision testing.
  • Extra points will be awarded for military service with an honorable discharge and college graduates.

FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER EXAM 

A competitive exam to establish an eligibility list for a Full-time Firefighter will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:00 pm at 9184 SR 43, Streetsboro, Ohio 44241. Completed application will be accepted in the Finance Department at the Streetsboro City Hall, 9184 SR 43, Streetsboro, Ohio 44241, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm Monday through Friday until Friday, February 20, 2015, The application deadline has been extended to February 27, 2015, to accommodate the rescheduled Agility Test. All documents and a non-refundable filing fee of $20.00 are due at the time of application. No personal checks will be accepted. Exact change only. 

Qualifications for exam: 

  • Must present a copy of a valid license and a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age and a U.S. Citizen.
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.
  • Must present proof of Certification of EMT/Paramedic in State of Ohio.
  • Must present proof of a 240-hour Ohio Firefighters Certification
  • Must present Certification of Physical Agility test from Cuyahoga Community College within the past year with a time of five (5) minutes or less. (call 216-987-5429 to register for one of the next Agility Test on January 18, 2015 or February 15, 2015. The February 15 Agility Test has been rescheduled for February 22, 2015) 

The written assessment will consist of questions taken from the following source(s): 

  • Essentials of Firefighting and Fire Department Operations, 6th Edition. 

Additional Credit: (No more than 20% shall be added to the passing score.) 

Military Service Credit: an additional 20% of the applicant’s passing grade will be awarded provided the applicant submits a copy of form DD-214 showing an honorable discharge with the original application. 

Education Credit: an additional 5% of the applicant’s passing grade will be awarded providing the applicant submits a copy of an Associate’s Degree in a related field or 10% for a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University. 

Part-time Service Credit: an additional 20% of the applicant’s passing grade will be awarded to an active part-time firefighter currently employed by the Streetsboro Fire Department.

Part-Time Chief Building Official
Compensation: $30.00 to $31.00 per hour

Pursuant to the City Charter, The Director of Building shall be the head of the Department of Building and possess at least a Class I Building certification from the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards. The Chief Building Official for the City of Streetsboro is authorized by the Streetsboro Codified Ordinances (“Code”) to enforce Titles One, Three, and Five of Chapter Thirteen of the Building Code of the Code of Ordinances.

           JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examines plans, issues or refuses permits under City ordinance or State Law, and inspects buildings.
  • Reviews existing City Building Codes, monitor changes in model codes and makes recommendations on a yearly basis.
  • Develops a written policy to maintain a yearly program to increase public awareness in regards to the City’s requirements for building codes and permits.
  • Develops a written policy to attain and maintain a high level of quality and customer service.  Including written guides and forms to assist the department’s customers in obtaining permits, inspections and other needed services.
  • Develops a policy to examine and improve the flow of information and cooperation between agencies and/or Departments involved in the permitting and licensing process.
  • Develops educational programs for contractors and homeowners.
  • Issues written notices of noncompliance specifying the alleged noncompliance with an order to conform to the requirements of the City ordinances or State Laws.
  • Enforces adopted regulatory codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations, and condemnation and demolition of buildings within jurisdiction and issues stop orders as appropriate.

QUALIFICATION: 

  • Must possess Class I Building Official State Certificate from the State of Ohio Building Standards.
  • Class III Building Inspector State Certificate and an Electrical Safety Inspector State Certificate preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year (4) college or university, and ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to examine plans and specifications of new construction, mechanical equipment, and installation including general knowledge of electrical, heating, refrigeration, and plumbing equipment and installation to make interpretations and to determine whether such plans conform with provisions of the applicable codes and good acceptable construction practices.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
