DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION
Compensation: $57,222 - $59,240

The City of Streetsboro is one of the fastest growing communities in Portage County. With just over 16,000 residents and 24 square miles, one reason for the major growth is due to the turnpike exit 187 during the growth of the automobile industry, Streetsboro experienced a population explosion. Proximity to the Akron and Cleveland areas, along with direct access to Interstate 80 (Ohio Turnpike), Interstate 480 and State Routes 303, 43 and 14, have greatly contributed to the rapid growth of manufacturing, distribution, commercial and residential development in past and present years.

The Streetsboro Parks and Recreation Department offers over 500 programs to the residents and community, including, Safety Land, Kick Start Sports such as Basketball, Dance, Soccer and Football, Guitar and Piano Lessons, Winter, Spring and Summer Break Camps, Youth Sports, such as Volleyball, Soccer, Dodge Ball, and Flag Football, and Breakfast with Santa and the Easter Bunny.

The City has an opening for a DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION

The position works very closely with and reports directly to the MAYOR and is a Full-time FLSA Exempt, unclassified, non-bargaining unit position.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Overseeing the Department of Park Recreation
  • Study and develop short-term and long-term goals, and makes recommendations to the Mayor and Council on all matters related to City parks and recreation.
  • Negotiates, reviews, and administers contracts, with vendors.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the Streetsboro Schools, etc, which will facilitate and implement programs and activities in conjunction with the City’s recreation goals.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate the development, implementation monitoring and evaluation of recreation programs and projects, including initial planning, feasibility determination, community involvement and acceptance, and implementation with project timetables.
  • Prepares reports and makes presentations to City Council, Boards and Commissions of the City, and the general public.
  • Evaluates third-party plans and proposals related to recreation plans and programs.
  • Prepares and administers the Department’s annual operating budget.

PARKS GROUNDS WORKER
Compensation: minimum - $10.41 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs the daily upkeep of the City parks, facilities, equipment and grounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Performs upkeep of the City and the City’s Facilities.
  • Operation of motor vehicles related to work duties, including the safe operation of medium dump trucks and light equipment.
  • Informs supervisor of conditions within the park’s facilities that require immediate attention i.e. unsafe playground, additional trash receptacles, etc.
  • Ensures and performs upkeep of the City parks, facilities, equipment and grounds.
  • Preparation of rooms and facilities for visitors by cleaning i.e. vacuum, mopping, etc. and setting up tables and chairs, moving supplies and materials.
  • Moves supplies, materials and equipment for departmental and City programs.
  • Must be available 24 hours per day/seven days per week for emergency situations and/or maintenance operations.
  • Maintain excellent levels of customer service.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED), and three (3) months related experience
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

This is a full-time, bargaining unit, classified position.

Four (4) year Degree from a College or University with a major in Recreation or Gerontology. 
Must have experience with Senior Programs, Activities and Community Events.
Strong organizational skills and communications skills.

Must be able to type 35 words per minute.
Must successfully pass psychological exam, background check, polygraph test and drug screening.
