Mobile Food Unit FAQ’s

MOBILE FOOD UNIT INSPECTION - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

In accordance with Ohio Fire Code Section 320 covering Mobile Food Units, the Streetsboro Fire Department announces the beginning of a Mobile Food Vendor inspection program. This inspection is REQUIRED for all Mobile Food Vendors operating in the City of Streetsboro.

Why inspect Mobile Food Vendors?

In the most recent edition of the Ohio Fire Code, a section was added covering mobile food units. The City of Streetsboro recently saw an increase in the use of Mobile Food Vendors at various locations around the city. In order to ensure the safety of the general public, the venue, and the Mobile Food Unit, these inspections are required.

As a Mobile Food Vendor, do I need an inspection each time I come to Streetsboro?

Once your Mobile Food Unit is inspected, you are covered for the entire calendar year. A spot inspection may occur if a potential fire code violation is reported to the Fire Prevention Bureau, to ensure continued compliance with all fire code regulations.

When can I get my Mobile Food Unit(s) inspected?

Effective immediately, for 2022, a Mobile Food Vendor can obtain an inspection by contacting the Streetsboro Fire Department – Fire Prevention Bureau weekdays at 330-626-4664 to set up an inspection. For calendar year 2023 and beyond, inspections for that calendar year may be scheduled with the Fire Prevention Bureau after January 1.

Where will inspections take place?

Generally, scheduled inspections will take place at the fire station, 9184 State Route 43. Special requests and circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

What if I don’t have an inspection done?

Mobile Food Vendors that fail to successfully complete a fire safety inspection and obtain an inspection sticker, risk being shut down for non-compliance in accordance with Section 109 of the Ohio Fire Code.

How can I prepare for this Inspection?

The inspection list we follow (as taken from the Ohio Fire Code), is available for you to review and print on the city’s website.

How long will the inspection take?

Depending on the size and complexity of the Mobile Food Unit, inspections are expected to last 30-60 minutes each.

I don’t use a vehicle but still operate a mobile food service. Do I need an inspection?

Yes. All Mobile Food Vendors are required, per Fire Code, to be inspected for compliance for all sections of the Ohio Fire Code applicable to their operation.

If I operate multiple mobile food units, can I transfer the inspection sticker between them?

No. Each Mobile Food Unit shall be inspected independently and bear its own inspection sticker. Appropriate documentation of food units will take place to ensure inspection stickers are moved around.

How do I obtain a new inspection sticker if mine was damaged in the same calendar year?

Once the mobile food unit has been properly identified as being inspected previously in that same year, the Fire Prevention Bureau may issue a new inspection sticker.
